BATTLE OF THE BRAINS: Foyil students place in competition

FOYIL — Several Foyil elementary and junior high students placed in the top 6 of each category last week during the annual “Battle of the Brains” academic competition, hosted by Inola High School.

The third through the eighth grade competition included categories in math, social studies, science and language arts. Seventeen area schools participated. Each school was allowed to enter two students per category, per grade and each student completed two multiple-choice tests.
“Students are together in a testing room and have 30 minutes to complete the tests,” said Foyil Elementary teacher Chrissie Christian. “Medals and ribbons were given to the top six places.”
Christian said this is the fourth year her students have competed in the event.
“I cannot tell you how proud I am of all of our students,” she said. “They all did so well and we have been complimented every year on how well behaved our kids are. Even though they didn’t all place, we are proud of every single one of them.”

Seventh grade: Colby Sutherland, third place
Language Arts

Seventh grade: Colby Sutherland, first; Cameron Jones, third place
Social Studies
Fourth grade: Ashleigh Kinney, fifth
Fifth grade: Stoney Morrison, fourth; Owen Bottorff, sixth
Seventh grade: Morgan Valliere, sixth
Science
Third grade: Elijah Lovelace, sixth
Eighth grade: Zachary Hubbard, second; Alyssa Anaya, fourth
Third grade participants: Kimberly Aschoff, Joshua Barnes, Dakota Culp, Christinia Ford, Elijah Lovelace and Kyle Sutherland
Fourth grade: Nolan Fletcher, Ashleigh Kinney, Mattison Otis, Kevin Thomas and Alexis Wilkerson
Fifth grade: Owen Bottoroff, Stoney Morrison, AJ Ohler, Kaylsa Smalley and Tristan Williams
Sixth grade: Jerry Aschoff, Avery Bland, Hunter Bolton, Makaelah Leach and Liberty Watrous
Seventh grade: Morgan Valliere, Colby Sutherland, Cameron Jones, Danielle Culp and Dessa Pinkston
