Verdigris, Claremore graduates recognized for ‘outstanding’ achievement at OU

CLAREMORE —

A Verdigris High School graduate and two Claremore High School graduates were recognized Friday and Saturday night for their academic and leadership achievements at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
Recipients were recognized at a spring banquet during OU Parents’ Weekend.
OU students David Doshier, 2013 graduate from Verdigris High School, Abbey Taylor, 2013 graduate from Claremore High School and Jake Pasdach, 2011 graduate from Claremore High School, were among individuals selected for areas of scholarship, character, leadership and service to the university community. 
Pasdach was among 12 students who received the Regent’s Award for Outstanding Juniors. He is currently majoring in public relations/public affairs and administration, and is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
Doshier and Taylor were among 12 students who received the President’s Award for Outstanding Freshman. The awards are the highest honors bestowed to students by the university community.
In addition to the Outstanding Freshman award, Doshier and Taylor earned the PACE award for accomplishments in four areas: 
• Participation in recognized campus clubs and activities
• Academic achievement with a minimum 3.25 GPA while enrolled in a minimum of 14 hours
• Community service on campus or in the metro area
• Excellence in leadership positions on campus, including residence life
Students can be nominated by University faculty, staff, academic advisors, organization sponsors, student organization presidents or students may self-nominate. A committee of university college administrators and staff reviewed all nominations and selected up to one percent of the total number of entering freshman for the 2013-14 school year.
Doshier is majoring in mechanical engineering and is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Taylor is majoring in psychology and is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
