Roosa Carnival: Raised funds will be used for completion of new playground

Stuart Roosa Elementary will host the third annual Roosa School Carnival from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday. Funds raised from the public event will be used toward the completion of a new playground expansion.
“We are supposed to begin phase one (main section) of the playground this summer,” said Principal Glen Abshere.
“Our hope is that we will have enough participation Friday night in order to purchase the equipment and have it installed by summer. That will be phase one of three.”
Abshere said phase one will include the addition of a new multi-level playgroud structure complete with a total of eight slides and a variety of climbing areas. Phase two will include a walking track and phase three includes the addition of learning pavilions.
The projects are estimated to cost $150,000. For the past three years, teachers and parents have conducted several fundraisers, such as the annual carnival event.
This year’s carnival will include 52 silent auction baskets and eight live auction items, including a Troy Aikman-autographed football, a weekend trip to Red Bud Marina, a ride to school in a fire engine, celebrity-autographed pictures and much more. The live auction will begin at 6:30 p.m.
“Items donated really demonstrate the amount of community support that we have here in Claremore,” said Abshere.
“An event like this cannot be successful without support from everyone. We have high schoolers volunteering to help, and parents are jumping in to run the games.”
Parents, teachers and faculty began organizing the carnival in September.
There are approximately 400 students enrolled at Roosa, and Abshere said he is expecting to see about 75 percent attend the carnival.
Carnival activities also include disc golf, glow-in-the-dark bowling, a football and basketball toss, face painting and an inflatable.
Unlimited play bracelets will be available for $10, as well as, $5 and $20 game punch cards.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for a chance to win lifetime oil changes and tire rotations from Robertson Tire, a $250 Wal-Mart gift card, a $250 QuikTrip gift card or a set of Dr. Dre Beats headphones.
Raffle tickets are one dollar each and will be available at the event.
The third annual Roosa School Carnival is open to the public.
