Events prepare students for school year

As the beginning of the school year gets closer, local school districts prepare to host annual back to school events to connect students with teachers and faculty.
Claremore High School’s “Back to School Night” will be from 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 13.
Parents will have the opportunity to walk the halls and meet each of their child’s teachers and learn about their expectations for the upcoming school term.
Students will be able to pick up their  school ID, as well as, open a lunch account, pre-order a yearbook and sign up for clubs and organizations.
“This is a pretty big social time for students and creates an easier transition for students’ first day back,” said Claremore Curriculum Coordinator Kerrie Garroutte. “The event really helps with incoming freshmen because it gives them an idea of what to expect on the first day, as well as, helps get rid of some first day jitters.”
Catoosa High School and R.J. Wells Middle School’s will host a similar open house from 5-7 p.m. on Aug. 12. Catoosa elementary schools’ “Back to School Night” will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 8.
The City of Inola will host a “Back to School” block party from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 3 in downtown Inola. Children ages Pre-K through sixth grade will enjoy free food, a scavenger hunt, car show, inflatables, artist drawings and more.
Verdigris elementary schools’ open house will be from 5:30- 6:30 p.m. Junior high and high schools’ will be from 6-7 p.m. Aug. 13.
New student enrollment for Oologah Schools will be held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Aug. 5 in the high school cafeteria. Students Pre-K through 12th grade will enroll during this time. The Caring Van will also be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to administer free immunizations.
