Zebra band kicks off summer practice

CLAREMORE —

A new school year is approaching, and for the Claremore High School Band, that means summer rehearsals.
On July 25, the marching band will start practicing for its new halftime show.
Parents of current and new students should be prepared for the upcoming marching season.
“I have music available starting July 9,” said Director Kevin Couch. “I will be at the band room from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday.”
Copies of all the halftime music, as well as some new charts should be available for pickup.
“I am working on making our halftime music accessible via email for parents to print at home,” Couch said.
Couch is asking each parent to reach out to others in the group via Facebook or text messaging to help get the word out.
The first practice will feature a session for “rookies” from 9 a.m. to noon. All other band members will continue rehearsals until 3 p.m. This includes 9th grade students and transfers into the district.
At 9 a.m. on July 26, parents are invited to attend a meeting to learn what to expect throughout the season.
“It is necessary that all students and a parent attend the meeting,” Couch said.
Students need to bring a copy of their health insurance card to attach to the emergency medical treatment form. Parents may leave when the general session is complete and forms have been turned in.
Students will need to come prepared to stay for rehearsal, Couch said.
The following week, the full-time schedule will begin at 8 a.m. Students will meet in the band room.  The complete schedule is available to parents upon request.
Lunch will be provided daily during rehearsals. Students are asked to bring a water jug.
