Rahn earns Westside Teacher of the Year

CLAREMORE —

Westside Elementary teachers and staff held a reception Wednesday in honor of Westside Teacher of the Year Michelle Rahn. Rahn is a first year science specialist, and has worked at Westside for three years.
Principal Traci Thomas said before stepping into the science lab, Rahn taught fifth grade in the classroom, and before that she taught at Central Upper Elementary before the fifth grade moved to the new Catalayah building.
“Rahn is doing an outstanding job,” said Thomas. “Teaching science is a passion for her, and we’re so glad that she is here.”
The school’s teacher of the year is chosen by colleagues building-wide.
“We vote and Rahn was decided winner. It was hands down an excellent choice,” said Thomas. “She sees every student in kindergarten through fifth grade. She is very hands-on and makes sure that she addresses each child’s learning style.”
She said Rahn is providing such an extension to the classroom, bringing a variety of hands-on opportunities to students that classroom teachers are unable to provide during class time.
