CPS group receives award

CLAREMORE — The Claremore Public Schools Foundation was honored Tuesday during the 22nd annual Fall Forum in Norman.

“It was my pleasure to accept the Outstanding Program award for the Technology Initiative from the OFE on behalf of the Claremore Public Schools Foundation Board of Trustees and all of our generous donors,” said CPS Executive Director Marla Lillie.
CPS Foundation was recognized for the 2011 Technology Initiative in which the foundation worked to equip every classroom in the district with LCD projectors.
Lillie expressed her love of what Pam Phillips wrote in a note to the CPSF.
“Van Gogh said, ‘Great things are not done by impulse but by a series of small things brought together.’  Thank you for bringing this plan together and providing my classroom with a projector. Although this was a district-wide initiative, I think it is important to note that the impact of it really is quite personal and specific.”
“The individuals and businesses in the community are truly quite extraordinary.   As a result of their generosity and loyal support, the Claremore Public Schools Foundation has been able to partner with the district since 1988 to support our teachers and students as they pursue excellence,” according to Lillie.
“I am inspired daily by the professionalism and dedication of our teachers, the inquisitiveness of our kids and the generosity of the CPSF Board of Trustees and donors.  This award sits in my office but really belongs to our entire community,” Lillie said.
The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence presented the forum for more than 200 local education foundation board members, mentoring volunteers, community leaders and educators. A number of local teachers attended the forum along side board members for the CPS Foundation.
The event featured a number of guest speakers and seminars.
“Champions for Education was the theme of the conference and University of Oklahoma Women’s Basketball Coach Sherri Coale delivered the keynote address.
