RSU Theatre Program to present ‘Speech & Debate’

CLAREMORE —

Rogers State University’s Theatre Program will be presenting Stephen Karam’s “Speech & Debate” this month at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Claremore.
Centered on three teenage misfits linked by a sex scandal that’s rocked their smalltown, “Speech & Debate” tells the story of what happens when one of them sets out to expose the truth — secrets become currency, the stakes get higher, and the trio’s connection grows deeper in dark comedy with musical accompaniment.
Cast members include Sharleen Branch, a sophomore from Bartlesville, Jericho Billings, a junior from Yukon, Bubba Enlow, a freshman from Jay, and Elizabeth Black, a senior from Dallas, Tex.
“Speech & Debate” is directed by David Blakely, RSU Associate Professor of Communications and director of the RSU Theatre Program. Mary Mackie, Professor of English and Humanities, is serving as the assistant director. Claremore junior Michael Robinson is serving as the technical designer and Renee Cox, Assistant Professor of English and Humanities, is the costume designer.
“Speech & Debate” will be presented April 10-12 and April 17-April 19.
Admission for regular performances will be $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and $2 for RSU faculty, staff and students who present university ID.
All proceeds will benefit student participation in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival regional competition.
Parental guidance is advised as the play contains adult themes and strong language. Attendees may place reservations by calling the theatre department box office.
