BRANSON, Mo. — The Rogers State Hillcats lowered the boom on Northwestern Oklahoma State Friday in a baseball doubleheader at Branson.

The Hillcats, with home runs from Brett Hollingsworth and Eric Schulz, defeated Northwestern, 6-2.

Then the Hillcats were held to three hits by Graceland College of Iowa, 4-0.

RSU continued the road trip with a pair of games scheduled Saturday. The Hillcats are 6-6.

Northwestern State is a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference, the same affiliation as RSU when it becomes a full NAIA member in the fall.

Junior lefthander Dusty Carriger, with seventh-inning relief from Brett Trzcinski, held the Rangers in check.

Schulz staked Carriger to a 4-0 lead with a two-run homer in the second inning. Hollingsworth came up with a solo homer in the fifth.

“It’s good to beat a SAC opponent,” Hillcat coach Ron Bradley said. “It shows that we should be very competitive in the Sooner Athletic Conference.”

Tyler Moe hit a three-run homer in the second game to lift Graceland past the Hillcats.
