Danny Zehder intercepted a pass at the eight-yard line with nine seconds remaining Friday night and preserved Claremore Christian’s 43-36 high school football victory over Bartlesville Wesleyan Christian at RBW Field in Bixby.

Claremore Christian pushed its record to 6-1, despite suffering through 23 penalties and four turnovers.

Travis Poole continued his aerial artistry, throwing for 371 yards and three touchdowns. He completed 22 of 40 passes, and had his only interception returned for a touchdown.

Poole also ran for three touchdowns, gaining 80 yards on 16 carries.

On the receiving end of Poole’s passes were Brian Bell, 13 catches for 171 yards and a touchdown, and Issac Bethea, five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

It was Poole’s one-yard TD with under three minutes left that proved to be the winner.

After he scored, Wesleyan marched downfield. Zehder put an end to that drive with his game-saving interception.

Wesleyan is now 4-4.
