NORMAN — For the second time this season, the Claremore tennis team hosted a tournament at Norman. Saturday, at the Westwood Tennis Center, the Lady Zebras placed first with 31 points, edging Bishop McGuinness with 30 points. The boys team tied for first place with Norman North, each with 29 points.
Natalie Evans finished first at No. 1 singles. She never lost a set, including a tight win over Jessica Le of Bishop McGuinness in the finals, 7-6, 7-5.
The No. 1 doubles team of Abbey Cox and Madi Rust also finished first in a runaway. They beat Norman 6-4, 6-2 in the finals.
The No. 2 singles player, Lauren Kuykendall, lost a 10-5 tiebreaker in the finals to Peyton McCuan of McGuinness in the finals.
And the No. 2 doubles team finished third.
The boys No. 2 doubles team of Owen McElwain and James Stout cruised to the championship. They beat Norman North 6-1`, 6-4 in the finals.
No. 1 singles player Micah Sloan finished second after a 6-2, 6-0 loss in the finals to Norman's Michael Grunstead.
The No. 1 doubles team of Ryan Westfall and James Cagle also finished runner-up after a 6-0, 6-2 loss in the finals.
And No. 2 singles player Jacob Price finished third. He fell 7-6, 6-3 to Quinn Lefingwell of Stillwater in the semifinals, but beat Tucker Hill of McGuinness 6-1 6-1 for third.
