TAHLEQUAH — At last! Claremore’s Zebras finally took down the Tahlequah Tigers.

After losing twice this season to the Tigers, Claremore came out on top Friday night, stopping their three-game winning streak with a 79-72 victory.

The Claremore girls ran their consecutive game string to five with a 41-30 decision over Tahlequah.

Claremore closes out its regular season at home Monday night, taking on Pryor.

Tahlequah, which had beaten the Zebras, 76-75, at Claremore, and 61-56, in the Catoosa tournament, moved out front by 19-13 in the first quarter Friday night.

But the Zebras turned the tables, counting 28 points in the second period to gain control, 41-35, at halftime.

Five Zebras scored in double figures, led by Alex Miller’s 21. Their balance offset the 32 points put up by Tahlequah junior pivot Matt Qualls.

In the girls game, Audra Skimbo scored 18 to lead the Lady Zebras, No. 7 in the Class 6A OKrankings.com poll of coaches.

The game pace was slowed by Tahlequah, which had lost, 64-34, at Claremore last month.

Although the Lady Tigers never managed more than nine points in a quarter, the Lady Zebras methodically took care of things by getting off to an 18-13 halftime start.

The Lady Zebras ran their record to 19-1. Tahlequah is 5-17.
