Claremore’s Laynie Nichols won the Metro Lakes Conference cross country championship and led the Lady Zebras to the team title at Tahlequah Tuesday.

TAHLEQUAH — The Claremore girls destroyed the competition at the Metro Lakes Conference cross country meet Tuesday in Tahlequah, claiming the team and individual top honors. The Claremore boys finished fifth, as Tahlequah took the top team honors.

The Lady Zebras placed all five scoring runners in the top 11 and had 33 team points.

Second place was Collinsville with 91 and Tahlequah was third with 97.

Pacing the pack again was defending state champion, sophomore Laynie Nichols, who finished with a time of 19:23, topping second place finisher Rory Geer of Grove by 32 seconds. Claremore’s Katelyn Alexander finished fourth in 20:33. Kassidy Hannah and Erin Kuykendall were seventh and eighth in 21:13 and 21:15, respectively. Gloria Butts finished 11th in 21:27. Lauren Kuykendall placed 15th in 21:58 and Bailey Pritchett was 24th in 22:34.

Other finishers were Katy Grubbs in 37th, Jessica Dukes in 41st, Jamie burden in 47th, Charity McGuire in 50th, Carolina Stokes in 57th, Jazymne Hoke in 58th, Elise Tilley in 75th, Mariah Galutza in 78th and Sidney Liebherr in 79th.

The Claremore boys were led by runner-up Andrew Vanaman, who finished the 5K course in 17:26. Johnson Long finished 18th with a time of 18:29, followed by Reid Willhoit in 34th (19:15), Blaine Phillippi in 35th (19:21), Alex Wiseman in 38th (19:26), Blake Phillippi in 39th (19:29) and Buck Davis in 41st place (19:31).

Other Claremore finishers were Bobby Case in 44th, Luke McHugh in 46th, Trent Steckline in 47th, Dalton Butts in 52nd, Jakobe Banks in 54th, Dolton Scott in 59th, Johnny Willever in 65th, Tatum Bailey in 67th, Tyler Douthitt in 68th, Christian Terhune in 91st, Elzie Puffett in 97th, Kai Cook in 98th, Mark Reed in 101st.

Girls: Claremore 33, Collinsville 91, Tahlequah 97, Grove 109, Coweta 113, Glenpool 129, Skiatook 151, Pryor 176.

Boys: Tahlequah 39, Coweta 59, Pryor 81, Collinsville 96, Claremore 126, Glenpool 170, Grove 178, Skiatook 193.

Junior High Girls: Coweta 31, Tahlequah 63, Pryor 77, Grove 97, Glenpool 102, Claremore 181.

Junior High Boys: Glenpool 31, Tahlequah 61, Claremore 89, Collinsville 106, Pryor 112, Grove 161, Coweta 181.

3A-4A regionals released

Chelsea will be competing at the Class 3A cross country regional at Henryetta, while Catoosa, Inola and Claremore Sequoyah will also be heading to Henryetta for the Class 4A regional. The regional will be Saturday, Oct. 14. The 3A girls open the regional at 10 a.m., followed by the boys at 10:45 a.m. The 4A girls get started at noon with the 4A boys starting at 12:45 p.m.

Other 3A teams at Henryetta will be the host school along with Adair, Beggs, Dewey, Eufaula, Heavener, Holland Hall, Idabel, Kansas, Kellyville, Keys, Little Axe, Meeker, Okemah, Okmulgee, Oktaha, Salina, Silo and Tahlequah Sequoyah.

Other 4A teams are Berryhill, Broken Bow, Cascia Hall, Central, Checotah, Webster, Fort Gibson, Jay, Lincoln Christian, Metro Christian, Miami, Poteau, Sallisaw, Stilwell, Vinita and Wagoner.

Those qualifying will compete at the state meet on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech course in Shawnee.
