WELCH — The Foyil Panthers started quickly and then finished off Chetopa, Kan., 56-47, Thursday night to gain the finals in the boys bracket of the Kenneth Sooter Invitational high school basketball tournament.

The Panther will play Watts, a 45-43 winner over host Welch, at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the championship game.

Eric Murray scored 16 points and dished out 11 assists for the second straight game to lead Foyil to its third victory. Jason Kersey had six points, but pulled in 11 rebounds.

“The kids fought hard,” Foyil coach Jason Ward said. “ We had our hands full down the stretch, and we had to fight.”
