LIBERTY — Foyil locked down its District A-6 high school football playoff spot Friday night with a 42-0 victory over Liberty.

According to head coach Trent Worley, the Panthers will finish fourth in the district no matter what happens Friday night week when top-ranked, undefeated Pawnee visits Foyil.

Five Panther starters were sidelined due to sickness, injury or ineligibility. Foyil started three sophomores on the front line and a freshman and two sophomores in the secondary.

“If we can just get everybody healthy this week we should be good going into the playoffs,” Worley said.

Taylor Antle rushed for two touchdowns and 168 yards on 17 carries.

The Panthers turned the ball over four times but still managed 335 yards of total offense and 16 first downs.

Defensively, the Panthers caused eight turnovers. Douglas Smith took in a Liberty fumble for a 24-yard score and Kenny Smith returned an interception 37 yards for another touchdown.

It was Foyil’s first shutout of the season.

Foyil is 5-2 in the district and 7-2 overall in its first season against 11-man competition. Pawnee will arrive with a 7-0 district mark after defeating No. 6 and co-district leader Woodland, 42-13.

“If we, the coaches, can get the kids to play hard and not beat themselves, we have a chance to win this week,” Worley said.
