AMARILLO, Texas – The Rogers State men's golf team started the 2017-18 season with a 14th place finish at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Tascosa Country Club. RSU shot a score of 294 today to post a three-round total of 881.

Freshman Aiden Gavey paced the Hillcats in his first collegiate tournament. The freshman from Caledonia, Ontario finished today with a final round score of 2-over-par 74 to go with his even par day on Monday for a three-round total score of 2-over-par 218 for 41st place in the field.

Junior Patrick Bart turned in a 1-over-par 73 in the third round today, the best score by a Hillcat in the third round. The Burnham, England native totaled rounds of 1-under-par 71 and 5-over-par 77 on day one to put together a 54-hole score of 5-over-par 221 and finished 50th overall.

Freshman Richard Cheetham ended in the third spot for the Hillcat team with a three-round total of 8-over-par 224. In the final round today, Cheetham finished with a 3-over-par score of 75. The first day saw the Sittingbourne, England native fire rounds of 1-over-par 73 and 4-over-par 76.

Freshman Peter Cummins carded a score of 2-over-par 74 in the final round to total a score of 10-over-par 226 in the three rounds. In his rounds yesterday, the Lurgan, Northern Ireland native registered rounds of 2-over-par 74 and 6-over-par 78.

After a disappointing first round, senior Alex Marsh bounced back to have the best second and third round scores for the Cats. The Southampton, England native ended the tournament with a score of 1-over-par 73 in the final round to tie the team-best score with Bart. In the second round yesterday, Marsh shot even par 72 after starting the day with a 10-over-par 82 in the first round. For the 54 holes, Marsh was 11-over-par at 227.

St. Mary's won the team title with a three-round total score of 837. Lone Star schools Cameron and West Texas A&M tied for second at 842.

WTAMU's Brayden Cruth took the top individual honors with a score of 13-under-par 203. He was one shot in front of Devin Tovey of Cameron and his score of 12-under-par 204.

The Hillcats are back in action on Oct. 2 at the Newman Fall Invitational in Wichita, Kan. at Crestview Country Club.
