EDMOND, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team saw its 11-game nonconference winning streak end with a 2-0 loss at Central Oklahoma on Sunday (Sept. 9) at Wantland Stadium.
In a battle of two early season undefeated teams, the Bronchos (3-0-0) scored two goals less than nine minutes apart in the second half to go on to win 2-0 over the Hillcats (3-1-0).
After a scoreless opening half, UCO went up 1-0 in the 55th minute of the contest with a goal by Katie Killion. In the 63rd minute, the Bronchos increased the edge to 2-0 with a tally by Taryn Kedzior.
For the game, UCO doubled the Cats up on shots at 16-8, and the Bronchos held an 8-4 lead in shots on goal.
Senior defender Melissa Cardenas led the navy and red with three shots, including two shots on goal. BreAnn Tolleson and Jordan Downing each added two shots.
Senior Taylor Sargent made six saves, but allowed the two goals for her first loss of the season. She dropped to 3-1-0 on the season in goal.
UCO's Kelsi Gibson earned the shutout win in goal, registering four saves in the 90 minutes.
The loss snapped RSU's 11-game nonconference winning streak dating back to 2016. The Hillcats went 4-0 in both the 2016 and 2017 seasons in nonconference games before winning the first three nonconference contests this season.
The Hillcats continue their five-game road trip with the start of Heartland Conference play at Lubbock Christian on Thursday (Sept. 13) at 2 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas. Video and live stats will be available.
