LUBBOCK, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw at Lubbock Christian on Thursday (Oct. 26) afternoon to clinch at least a top three finish in the Heartland Conference standings. With the decision, the Hillcats moved to 12-3-2 on the season and 8-3-2 in the Heartland Conference.
With the results, the Hillcats will either be the No. 2 or 3 seed in the Heartland Conference Tournament. RSU could still tie for the conference regular season championship if Dallas Baptist University drops its final two games and St. Edward's loses or ties one of its final two games. The Cats would also need to win on Saturday at Oklahoma Christian.
With a strong wind, scoring chances were hard to come by. The Hillcats tallied one shot on goal in the 55th minute when Melissa Cardenas put a strike on target. RSU registered all four of its shots in the game during the second period.
The first half was slow for both teams with the Lady Chaps owning a 3-0 advantage in shots. In the second period, LCU tallied 10 shots and added four more in the two overtimes. For the game, the host Lady Chaps held a 17-4 edge in shots, but only put five shots on target.
Goalkeeper Taylor Sargent earned her third straight shutout. The two-time reigning Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week made five saves to keep LCU scoreless in 110 minutes.
The Hillcats wrap up the regular season at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday (Oct. 28) at 1 p.m. in Oklahoma City, Okla. Live stats will be available for the contest.
