CHELSEA — Inola made final preparations for the high school basketball district playoffs Tuesday night with a double victory over Chelsea.

The Longhorns went into a second-quarter stampede that carried over into the second half as they ran past Chelsea, 78-36.

In the girls game, Inola used a second-period outburst to clip the Lady Dragons, 45-36.

It was the final games for all involved before the playoffs begin Friday night.

Boys

Seth Moore and Tyler Stone led a 14-player scoring parade for Inola.

After an 8-6 first period, the Longhorns broke away from the pack. They blitzed Chelsea, 26-9, in the second period, and then added 22 points in each of the final two quarters.

Inola, which bounced Chelsea, 65-49, in January, improved its record to 7-11. The Longhorns will head to Wagoner Friday night in the Class 4A district opener.

Chelsea will take a 3-17 record into the Class 3A district tournament Friday night at Sperry.

Girls

The Lady Longhorns took an 8-6 lead from the first period and turned it into a 28-13 halftime cushion.

Although Chelsea rallied in the third quarter, it was not enough to overtake the Lady Longhorns.

Sophomore Bailey Gins scored 14 points to lead Inola to its second victory over Chelsea. Last month at home, Inola doubled up Chelsea, 64-32.

Gins hit a pair of three-pointers, and eight points overall, in the second quarter. Teammate Mary Grigg scored six of her eight points in the second-period explosion.

But the night belonged to freshman Kelsey Sears. The 6-2 post player pulled in 11 rebounds and blocked seven shots, to go along with her six points.

“She played a great ball game,” Inola coach Rick Ott said.

“All of our underclassmen did a good job for us.”

Sierra McSpadden scored 13 points to lead the Lady Dragons.

Inola wrapped up its regular season with a 10-10 mark. Chelsea is 9-11.
