Claremore’s Lady Zebras will open the Class 5A fastpitch softball state tournament Thursday against the top-ranked team in the state.

Midwest City Albert is 37-2 and has been atop the coaches rankings all season.

Albert is in the state field for the fifth straight season, but has yet to win it, even reach the championship game.

The double-elimination tournament begins at noon Thursday at Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium. The eight Class 5A teams will be joined by the Class 6A elite on the four diamonds in the softball complex.

The Lady Zebras have fashioned a 24-19 record. D.J. Simpson heads the batting charts for Claremore, with a .341 average. Jordan Ford is hitting .320 and Bailey Winters has a .307 average.

Keeli Garroutte is one of three pitchers in the circle for Claremore, but the one with the most wins. She is 11-8 with 133 strikeouts.
