WACO, Texas – Rogers State women's golfer Jess Whitting was named the Heartland Conference Women's Golfer of the Week announced by the Heartland Conference on Wednesday (Oct. 18). It's Whitting's first league player of the week honor in his career.
Whitting, a redshirt freshman from Perth, Australia, finished in second place at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate played on Monday and Tuesday. She shot a two-round score of 3-under-par 141.
In the final round on Tuesday, Whitting moved up six spots with the best score of the final round at 2-under-par 70. The score was one shot off the RSU school record of 3-under-par 69.
The freshman opened the tournament with a 1-under-par 71 in the first round on Monday. The Hillcats as a team shot the second-best score in school history on Tuesday to jump to fifth in the team standings. This is Whitting's first career weekly award.
In her first collegiate season, Whitting has finished in the top 10 three times and in the top five twice. Whitting started her collegiate career with a fourth-place finish at the Northeastern State Classic, and she placed eighth at the West Texas A&M Invitational.
The Oklahoma Intercollegiate concluded the fall season for the Hillcats.
