Junior Lauren Schuldt, who was limited to only 16 minutes due to four offensive fouls, made a jumper to tie the score at 48-48 with 1:22 left in the third period as the Hillcats rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to even the score. The Lady Lions (5-3, 1-0 Heartland) took control of the game with a 7-0 run over three and a half minutes in the fourth to pull out to a 59-50 margin with 5:25 left. The spurt was highlighted by a three-point play by Lundon Williams to lift UAFS to the nine-point advantage.

RSU (3-4, 0-1 Heartland) cut the deficit to seven points twice in the fourth, but the Lady Lions pushed the lead out to double figures at 66-54 with a 3-pointer from Micayla Haynes. UAFS led by as many as 15 points in the final three minutes on its way to the 72-58 win.

The Hillcats started the game fast, registering the game's first four points for a 4-0 lead at the 7:46 mark of the first period after back-to-back layups from Darian Jackson. The advantage grew to as large as five points for RSU when Jordan Evans scored inside for a 10-5 score with 2:04 left in the opening period. UAFS totaled the next seven points to erase the deficit and take a 12-10 advantage at the end of the period.
