Things looked pretty good for Claremore when the Zebras went ahead, 2-0, in a high school boys soccer match Tuesday night.

But visiting Bixby scored three straight goals and went on to a 3-2 win in the second game of a Metro Lakes Conference doubleheader.

In the girls game, goalkeepers Jordan Harris and Emily Taylor combined to hold the Lady Spartans scoreless as the Lady Zebras won, 2-0.

Both varsity teams will be idle until after the Claremore Schools spring break. They will start district play March 27 at Coweta.

Claremore needed just 29 seconds to get on the board in the boys game when Robby Smith took a pass from Victor Brown and sent one past the Bixby goalie for a 1-0 lead. That score held until just under 23 minutes remained in the second half. This time, Brown set up Sean Jaubert to put the Zebras ahead, 2-0.

Bixby then scored three straight goals over seven minutes, taking the lead for good with just over five minutes remaining.

In the girls game, Claire Detter gave the Lady Zebras (3-0) a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal in the 28th minute. Gina Howell put CHS ahead, 2-0, scoring off a corner kick from Caitlin Phillips

"As a team, we gave a great team effort," said CHS girls coach Gavin Crocker. "Bixby has one of the top forwards in the state and defensively we shut her down.

"We got up, 2-0, in the first half so we decided to play real defensive the rest of the game and avoid taking unnecessary chances," he said.
