Strong pitching carried the Pixley Pirates, Claremore's 2A American Legion team, to a 7-2 and 11-2 doubleheader sweep of Salina Monday night at Legion Field.

Kyle Nathman struck out six in five innings and allowed only three singles to get the victory in game one.

Austin Vanover won the 3 1/2-inning, run-ruled nightcap, giving up four hits in three innings.

Claremore, 12-4, took a 5-0 lead in the first game on only one hit. The Pirates took advantage of four errors, four walks and two hit batsmen. Ryan Mosely and Bryson Kilpatrick each scored two runs.

Salina is 6-3, and all three loses have been inflicted by the Pirates. Salina did earn a doubleheader split with the Pirates earlier.

Claremore wasted no time in the second game, scoring nine runs in the first on five walks and three hits. The highlight was a three-run triple by Clay Bower.

Vanover also helped his cause with a two-run single. Dalton Rawlings and Avery Holt each scored two runs.
