VERDIGRIS — Oklahoma Christian School scored three goals in the first half Tuesday and defeated Verdigris, 4-2, in the Class 4A high school boys soccer state semifinals.
The Cardinals got goals from Kris Carroll and Alex Toofan in the second half, but it was not enough to overtake the Saints. With a 3-0 lead at intermission, the Saints added an insurance goal in the second half.
Verdigris ended its season with a 10-3 record. In the final regular-season poll of coaches, conducted by OKrankings.com, the Cardinals were No. 13.
The No. 9-ranked Saints of Edmond advance to the state finals, against Cascia Hall, in Tulsa on Saturday.
OCS had won its first two playoff games by scores of 1-0 (over OC McGuinness) and 3-2 (over Woodward).
Verdigris also advanced with one-goal victories. The Cardinals had defeated Grove, 4-3, and Oologah, 2-1, in a shootout, to reach the semis.
