Rangers boost streak to 15

It was Think Pink, the Sequel.

The Rogers County Rangers and the Bartlesville Indians met in Bartlesville Saturday night, with the same agenda: to raise breast cancer awareness.

As they did on Friday night in Claremore, the two American Legion baseball teams wore pink uniform jerseys.

And, as was the case on Friday night, the Rangers dispatched Bartlesville in a run-rule, 14-6 win.

Then, on Sunday, the Rangers turned their attention to only baseball.

The results were the same. Another Rangers victory.

The Claremore-based Legion majors team posted its 15th straight victory, defeating a team made up mainly of players from the Wagoner and Muskogee areas, a team called Three Rivers, by an 8-5 score.

In Bartlesville Saturday, David Chester and Jared Peper hit back-to-back home runs to help power the Rangers.

Rangers starter Hunter Hines overcame a five-run inning and settled down to finish the job.

Against Three Rivers, third baseman Braden Best hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to overcome a 4-0 deficit and spark a comeback that led to victory.

Brock Werdel was the winning pitcher in relief. He pitched the seventh and eighth before Peper relieved in the ninth and picked up the save.

Rogers County, 27-4, will travel to Ada tonight for a doubleheader, meeting Durant in the first game and Ada in the second.

On Wednesday, the Rangers travel to Tahlequah and return home to Legion Field on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game with Tahlequah.
