Lady Zebras remain unbeaten

The Claremore Lady Zebras used opposite methods to produce the same results as they upended Pryor, 1-0, and Grove, 8-0, in their Claremore Festival Saturday.

First-year Zebras player Julie Rigsby stopped a pitchers’ duel in the bottom of the seventh inning with a bases- loaded single to defeat Pryor.

Claremore wasted no time in the second game, scoring four runs in the first inning. Another four-run rally in the fifth finished off Grove via the run rule.

Lefthander Whitney Hocutt, making her first start of the season, faced the minimum 15 batters against Grove. She allowed a two-out single in the fourth, but the runner was thrown out trying to reach second base.

Eight hitters accounted for Claremore's nine hits against Grove’s Margaret Pogue. Jordan Ford led the attack with two singles and drove in two runs in the fifth. A Tiffany Chanley single allowed pinchrunner Kami Mosely to score the game- ending run.

The first game pitted Keeli Garroutte against Pryor's Molly Fink. Each pitcher gave up six hits, but three of Claremore's came together in the last inning and accounted for the only run.

Zebras catcher Cassidy Bowen erased two of the Pryor runners attempting to steal second base.

As Claremore improved to 4-0 during the first week of the season, Pryor fell to 0-2 and Grove to 2-2.

On Monday, Bailey Erwin pitched a no-hitter and lifted Claremore Sequoyah past Verdigris, 1-0.
