NORMAN — Four Oklahoma players earned top Big 12 Conference honors and

six Sooners were named to the all-

conference team, the league announced Thursday.

OU quarterback Baker Mayfield (Big 12 offensive player of the year), left tackle Orlando Brown (offensive lineman of the year), defensive end/linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (co-defensive player of the year) and linebacker Kenneth Murray (co-defensive freshman of the year) were given individual awards.

Mayfield and Brown both got their nods for the second time, and joined Okoronkwo, OU senior fullback Dimitri Flowers, tight end Mark Andrews and center Erick Wren as Sooner players named to the All-Big 12 first team.

Selections were made by the league’s 10 coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Mayfield finishes his career a three-time All-Big 12 first team selection, though he wasn’t a unanimous pick.

Andrews and Brown both made the first team for the second consecutive year.

OU’s six selections on the second team were: running back Rodney Anderson, offensive guards Ben Powers and Dru Samia, defensive end D.J. Ward, strong safety

Steven Parker and place-kicker/punter Austin Seibert.

• All-Big 12 notes: OU, which plays TCU in Saturday’s Big 12 title game (11:30 a.m., FOX), has won 39 individual awards in the Big 12’s 21 seasons, most among any conference team. Kansas State has won 32.

The last three Big 12 offensive players of the year have come from OU: Mayfield twice (2017, 2015) and receiver Dede Westbrook (2016).

Okoronkwo, who shared the defensive player of the year nod with Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson, was OU’s first to win the award since Frank Alexander in 2011.

Brown was OU’s first Big 12 offensive lineman of the year since Jon Cooper in 2008.

Murray started all 11 games for OU at middle linebacker. He shares the freshman defensive player of the year award with TCU defensive tackle Ross Blacklock. Both are Missouri City, Texas, natives.

• Mayfield edged for Unitas: Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph beat out Mayfield for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation’s top senior quarterback.

Rudoph is the leading passer in the FBS with 4,553 yards and a 379.4-yard average.

Beyond statistical performance, the award considers winners for their “character, citizenship, scholastic achievement and leadership qualities.”

• Mayfield up for other awards: OU’s quarterback was named one of five finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and one of 11 finalists for the Manning award.

Mayfield leads the nation with a 71.4 completion percentage and 203.3 pass efficiency rating. He also has a career-high 4,097 yards passing.

The Walter Camp Award will be announced Dec. 7 during the 5 p.m. ESPN SportsCenter. The Manning Award — the only quarterback honor that considers candidates’ bowl performances — will be announced in January.

Mayfield is a finalist for five major awards, as he’s also being considered for the Maxwell Award, O’Brien Award and Burlsworth Trophy.

• Big 12 ticket prices: Tickets to the OU-TCU game are third-most expensive among Power 5 conference championship games, according to research by TickPick.

The average Big 12 title game ticket goes for $287.57. The SEC championship game between Auburn and Georgia is first at $832.65, followed by the Miami-Clemson ACC title game at $325.40.

Big Ten tickets (Wisconsin-Ohio State) are going for $251.81, while the Pac 12’s (Stanford-USC) are at $129.69.
