CLAREMORE, Okla. – Freshman Hannah Mushisky scored the equalizing goal in the final minutes of regulation to earn Rogers State women's soccer a 1-1 draw against conference-leading Dallas Baptist University on Thursday night at Soldier Field.
Trailing 1-0 late in the game, the Hillcats tied the score at 1-1 in the 86th minute when Mushisky drove a shot to the back post to tally the equalizer. Jordan Downing earned the assist on the goal.
After a scoreless first half, the Patriots went up 1-0 in the 65th minute due to a miscue from the RSU defense. The Cats gave up possession to DBU in the back, and Alondra Olmos sent a pass to Jayme Woodfill for the opening goal and a 1-0 score.
In a matchup of two of the top three programs in the Heartland Conference, the teams played fairly even with each other. RSU posted 14 shots to 11 for DBU, but the Patriots held a slight 8-6 edge in shots on target. Defender Melissa Cardenas registered a game-high three shots. Fouls were just as close with the count 12-11.
Junior goalkeeper Taylor Sargent went the full 110 minutes and collected seven saves, including some impressive diving stops in overtime. She allowed the tough-luck goal as the junior moved to 9-3-1 on the season.
The Hillcats play their final home contest of the 2017 season on Saturday (Oct. 14) against St. Edward's at 1 p.m. at Soldier Field. It's Senior Day with the senior class being recognized following the contest. Coverage will be available on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
