CLAREMORE, Okla. – Junior guard Desiree Nelson hit seven 3-pointers to tie the Rogers State school record as the Rogers State women's basketball team earned a 70-57 homecoming win over Bacone College on Saturday (Nov. 18) at the Claremore Expo Center.

The Hillcats (3-1) scored the game's first 14 points and never looked back in the comfortable victory.

Senior guard Kamry Chamberlain capped the 14-0 run to start the game with a 3-pointer with 1:37 left in the first period. She scored the final five points of the spurt after Nelson put in five straight points, including one of her seven 3-pointer.

The Hillcats' stingy first-period defense held the Lady Warriors scoreless until the final minute of the opening period. Bacone hit its first points on a 3 with 37 seconds remaining in the first stanza. RSU was up 16-3 after the first 10 minutes of action.

Nelson caught fire in the second period, tallying three triples in the final five minutes before halftime. She knocked down her second 3 at the 5:03 mark for a 27-10 RSU advantage. The junior from Caney, Kan. totaled back-to-back 3s to increase the Cats margin to 37-18 at the half.

In the third period, Nelson added two more 3-pointers to put her at six for the game, one away from the school record. She upped the RSU lead to 49-30 with 2:30 remaining in the period with another 3, and made it 55-30 to end the third stanza on her sixth 3-pointer.

Her seventh triple came in the game's final seconds, hitting with 36 seconds left for the final 70-57 score. Nelson tied Hunter Peterson's seven 3-pointer performance from Feb. 28, 2009 against St. Gregory's.

Nelson finished with a game-high and career-high 23 points, going 7-11 from 3 in 21 minutes off the bench.

Darian Jackson tallied a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds for RSU. Also in double digits in points was Jordan Evans with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. The Hillcats shot 41.2 percent (21-51) from the field in the game.

Bacone was paced by Juanita Dodson with 10 points as the only Lady Warrior in double figures.

The Hillcats go on the road on Tuesday at Southern Nazarene. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Bethany, Okla. Audio will be available on the Hillcat Network at
