PRYOR — The Oologah Mustangs used a double-barreled offense Monday night to wreck Claremore Sequoyah, 64-49, in the opening round of the Pryor Invitational high school basketball tournament.

The Sequoyah Lady Eagles used a 20-point second period to roll past Haskell, 46-33.

Oologah advanced to Friday night’s semifinal against the winner of Tuesday’s Adair-Salina game. Sequoyah will meet the loser of that Tuesday pairing in a Wednesday consolation-round game.

The Sequoyah girls moved into a Thursday night semifinal meeting with unbeaten Adair, an 87-21 winner over Salina.

Boys

Jeff White scored 22 points and Jordan Barrett added 18 as the Oologah Mustangs took out Sequoyah.

The Mustangs added to a 17-8 first-period lead and were rolling, 38-17, at halftime.

Alex Haynes and Blake Breshears led Sequoyah with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Oologah ran its record to 5-6. Sequoyah, dropping its sixth straight, stands at 3-8.

Girls

For Sequoyah, Megan Fuller put up 22 points, and Stevey Conger contributed 12.

The Lady Eagles erased a 10-9 first-period deficit with a 20-point explosion in the second. They took a 29-20 halftime advantage and expanded that to 42-27 after three quarters.

With that comfortable margin, it mattered little that the pace of the fourth quarter favored Haskell. Sequoyah managed only four points, but the Lady Eagles still had things in control. They snapped a four-game losing streak and improved their record to 6-5.

The Lady Eagles will meet Adair in the semifinals. The two teams met last month in the semifinals of the Adair tournament. Adair prevailed, 56-23, in that confrontation.
