ENID — Blake Kelley had three hits and knocked in three runs and Steffon Williams blasted a solo homer as the Rogers County Rangers defeated Mustang, 9-4, Wednesday in the opening round of the American Legion baseball Majors State Tournament at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
John Chaisson had three hits as the Rangers banged out 14 hits against three Mustang pitchers.
Zane Williams, Curt Simpson and Steffon Williams each had two hits as the Rangers improved to 31-6 and won their 23rd game in the last 24 outings.
The Rangers scored five runs in the sixth inning to turn a 3-2 lead into a rout.
Lefthander Kyle Head picked up the win in seven innings of work. Head scattered six hits while fanning eight and walking two.
Mustang (15-33) had 11 hits, including two each by Kenny Young, Sean Iago, Marcus Hughes and Chase Ashley.
The victory sent the Rangers into a second-round matchup with the defending national champions, the Enid Majors, at 8 p.m. Thursday.
