The 12th-ranked (3A) Verdigris girls got their first win of the season Friday after running away in the second half to take down Wagoner 47-37.
The Lady Cardinals were tied with the Lady Bulldogs, 16-16, at the half. But things began to open up for Verdigris after that.
Led by Lexi Weilert’s 10 points, and nine from Megan Turner, the Lady Cardinals, took control in the third with a 16-11 run, and then nailed the door shut in the fourth with a 15-10 run.
Wagoner boys 65, Verdigris 55 — The 14th-ranked Verdigris boys fell to 1-1 after their 65-55 loss to Wagoner Friday night.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 17-6 lead, but the Cardinals clawed back to within 27-23 at the half.
The Bulldogs, however, stayed within arm’s length of Verdigris in the second half, outscoring the boys in red 23-19 in the fourth quarter to ice the game.
Stephen Meeder led Verdigris with 15 points. Brock Fugate added 11 and Kade Keith had 8.
Caney Valley boys 45, Chelsea 31 — Chelsea lost its first game of the season Friday with a 45-31 loss to Caney Valley.
The Green Dragons shot juust 17 percent from the field and 43 percent from the free throw line in the loss.
Austin Veysey and Noah Winters each had 7 points for the Dragons.
