LAREDO, Texas – The Rogers State men's soccer team fell, 3-0, at Texas A&M International on Thursday (Oct. 19) at the Dustdevil Soccer Field.
The Dustdevils (7-4-2, 6-4-1 Heartland) snapped the Hillcats' three-game unbeaten streak as the navy and red dropped to 6-6-3 on the season and 3-5-3 in the Heartland Conference.
TAMIU's reserve Rodrigo Zuniga tallied all three second-half goals for the hat trick. Alan Rivera totaled the first two assists with Cam Izgec getting the final helper.
In the second half, TAMIU took advantage of a man advantage after a late first half red card was given to midfielder Declan Fitzpatrick. The Hillcats played the final 46 minutes with 10 players.
Zuniga scored the first goal just minutes into the second half for a 1-0 Dustdevil edge in the 48th minute. The lead doubled to 2-0 in the 60th minute with a shot to the far post by Zuniga. Zuniga completed the hat trick in the 80th minute with a shot to the near post.
For the game, the Dustdevils doubled up the Hillcats on shots, 20-10. TAMIU put 12 attempts on goal with the Cats totaling only three. Zuniga registered a game-high seven shots. Fitzpatrick led RSU with three shots in 44 minutes.
Senior Goalkeeper Walker Farrar, the Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, matched a career high with eight saves. Cody Gammill came in for the final eight minutes and totaled one save.
The Hillcats continue its final road trip of the season at St. Mary's on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 12 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas. Live stats and video will be available for the contest.
