WILBURTON — Rotnei Clarke had a basketball field day in a high school mismatch Thursday night.

Clarke, the state’s leading scorer a year ago, scored 42 points and carried Verdigris past Lakewood Christian School of McAlester, 102-19, in the opening round of the Eastern State College high school tournament.

Verdigris advances into Friday’s 9 p.m. semifinals against Clayton, a 47-33 winner over Victory Life.

Verdigris did not allow more than one basket in each of the first three periods.

The Cardinals opened with a 23-2 first period, tacked on a 24-3 second, and exploded to a 33-2 third quarter.

Cole Overholt scored 22 in support of Clarke.
