CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State head men's basketball coach Justin Barkley announced the signing of Bryan Battle to the 2018 men's basketball signing class. Battle will be a junior on the RSU men's basketball team in the 2018-19 season.
"Bryan was a guy who immediately got my attention when we were able to start recruiting him," Barkley said. "His skill set and game reminded me of a few former Hillcats we have had here. Bryan is athletic, can guard a lot of different positions on defense and has the ability to stretch the floor on the offensive end. Adding a piece like Bryan this summer really helps this recruiting class. I am looking forward to working with him over the next couple years."
Battle comes to RSU from South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Arizona where he played the first two seasons of his collegiate career. In his two seasons, Battle averaged 10.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 34 percent from 3-point range. He scored in double figures in 30 games during the two seasons at South Mountain, including six 20-point games. Battle scored a career-high 25 points against Cochise College. As a rebounder, he grabbed double digit rebounds in 10 games with a career high of 12.
Battle prepped at Gilbert Higley High School and averaged 17.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. He was selected first team all-state in Arizona. Battle ranked as a top 20 player in his 2016 class in the state of Arizona and was ranked No. 6 as a small forward in the state according to prephoops.com.
The Hillcat men's basketball team went 18-11 in the 2017-18 season, including an 11-3 record at the Claremore Expo Center. RSU advanced to postseason play for the second time in its two years as full members of NCAA Division II with an appearance in the Heartland Conference Tournament.
