WICHITA, Kan. – The Rogers State men's golf team sits in third place after two rounds of the Newman Fall Invitational on Monday (Oct. 2) at Crestview CC on a breezy day with 30 mph winds. RSU's Luke Palmowski and Peter Cummins rank in the top six after 36 holes.

The Hillcats shot a first-round-best score of 298 to hold the lead after the morning's opening round. RSU fired a 305 in the second round to slide back slightly to third with a score of 603. The Cats are only one shot back from first with Southeastern Oklahoma State and Central Oklahoma at 602.

Palmowski paces the Cats in a tie for third at 1-over-par 145 for 36 holes. The freshman started with a 1-under-par 71 to rank in first place after the first round. He followed opening round with a 2-over-par 74 to total the score of 145. Palmowski was one of the best in the field in par 4 scoring at 1-under-par to rank second. The freshmen from Rotherham, England tallied six birdies in his two rounds, the most for the navy and red.

Also currently in the top 10 is freshman Peter Cummins. The Lurgon, Northern Ireland native posted a two-round score of 7-over-par 151 to tie for sixth after day one. He opened the day with a 2-over-par 74 in the morning round. To finish the day, Cummins shot a 5-over-par 77 for the 36-hole score. The freshman was at his best on par 3s at 1-over-par to rank fourth in the field. Cummins registered six birdies on the day, the most on the RSU team.

Freshman Aiden Gavey ranks just inside the top 20 at 19th overall at 10-over-par 154 after two rounds. Gavey put together a round of 3-over-par 75 in the opening 18 holes in the morning. He followed with a 7-over-par round of 79. Gavey was tops in the field on par 3s at even par. The freshman also ranked fourth in the field with 24 pars in the 36 holes played today.

After a 9-over-par 81 in the first round today, senior Alex Marsh bounced back with a 3-over-par 75 in the second round for a score of 12-over-par 156 to sit in 26th overall. For the day, Marsh totaled five birdies in the 36 holes.

Junior Patrick Bart carded a score of 17-over-par 161 for the two rounds today. Bart, a junior from Burnham, England, opened with a round of 6-over-par 78. In the final round, he posted a score of 11-over-par 83 to put together the 36-hole score.

Nick Pierce of Central Oklahoma leads the field at 3-under-par 141 to hold a three-shot edge.

He fired a second round of 4-under-par 68 to open the margin on the field.

The Hillcats conclude the Newman Fall Invitational Tuesday morning with the third round at Crestview CC.
