OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Rogers State men's golf team and sophomore Luke Palmowski both placed fourth at the GAC Preview on Sept. 10-11 at Lake Hefner Golf Course on their North Course. The Hillcats posted a 54-hole score of 847 for fourth out of the eight team field, and Palmowski was 10-under-par for fourth as an individual.
Although the navy and red finished fourth, the score of 847 is the second-best 54-hole total in program history behind the 845 54-hole score shot at the Heartland Conference Championship last season when the Cats won the league title.
Palmowski closed today with a 3-under-par score of 69 for the total mark of 10-under-par 206. For the tournament, the sophomore posted 13 birdies and 38 pars in the 54 holes. He was 4-under-par on the par 4s, ranking third in the field, and 1-under-par on the par 3s to take sixth in the field in par-3 scoring. Palmowski posted a 5-under-par mark on the par 5s.
Appearing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Edwin Blomander took 14th overall and second for the navy and red. He ended the event with a 2-under-par 70 for a three-round score of 4-under-par 212. The Swede carded 16 birdies, the second-most in the field. For the tournament, Blomander was 6-under-par on the par 5s and 2-under-par on the par 4s.
Sophomore Peter Cummins shot the best score of the day for the Hillcats at 4-under-par 68. For the 54-hole tournament, he registered a score of 4-over-par 220 to place 34th overall. The sophomore finished with 35 pars and 10 birdies in the three rounds.
Gonzalo Chaves ranked 24th overall with his second straight round of even par 72 in today's final round. He posted a 54-hole score of 1-over-par 217. Chaves went 6-under on the par 5s and tallied 37 pars in the tournament.
Senior Patrick Bart closed with a 3-over-par 75 in Tuesday's final round to put together a score of 3-over-par 219 in the tournament to place 28th.
Playing as an individual, senior Ewen Delample posted a score of 4-under-par 68 today to move to 4-under-par 212 in the tournament and 14th overall. The senior was the best in the field on par 5s as he was 10-under-par in the tournament. He added three eagles in his three rounds along with 36 pars.
Freshman Dalton Northcutt took 22nd overall as an individual at even par 216. In the final round today, he posted a mark of even par 72. The freshman was 6-under-par on the par 5s with 36 pars in his three rounds at his first collegiate event.
Zach James of Southeastern Oklahoma State was the individual medalist at 19-under-par 197 to win by seven shots. Rman Timmerman of Southern Arkansas was second at 12-under-par.
In the team score, Southern Arkansas won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 829. SE was second at 832.
The Hillcats continue their fall schedule in two weeks at the Griffin Invitational from Sept. 24-25 in Tampa, Fla. at TPC Tampa.
