NEW ORLEANS — After winning the Heartland Conference Championships, the Rogers State men's cross country team surged back into the NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll at No. 21 in the week six rankings as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday (Oct. 25).

The Hillcats returned to the poll after dropping out in week five as the navy and red received votes, but were one vote from No. 25. RSU has been ranked in the top 25 in weeks two, three, four and now six. The Cats' highest spot came at No. 15 in week three.

RSU moved by Dallas Baptist University in the top 25 after the head-to-head victory at the Heartland Conference Championship. The Cats won the championship by one point over the Patriots. Senior Baylor Harvey took his third Heartland Conference individual title and was named the Heartland Conference Runner of the Year. The navy and red landed five runners on the All-Heartland First Team: Harvey, Seth Whittington, Colton Green, Elijah Mackey and Ryan Alexander.

Head cross country coach Chris McCormick was named the Heartland Coach of the Year after guiding the team to the championship.

The poll featured a new name at the top for the first time this season. Colorado Mines moved into the No. 1 spot after defeating Adams State at the RMAC Championship during the weekend. Grand Valley State jumped to second place and Adams State ranked third. Chico State and Mount Olive rounded out the top five.

The navy and red also jumped up in the South Central Region poll by one spot to No. 5. RSU moved by DBU. Four RMAC schools were in the top four spots with Colorado Mines, Adams State, Western State and CSU-Pueblo in first though fourth. After RSU ranked DBU, West Texas A&M, UC-Colorado Springs, Fort Lewis and Colorado Mesa in the sixth through 10 spots.

The Hillcats compete at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship on Nov. 4 at 10:45 a.m. in Canyon, Texas, hosted by West Texas A&M.
