WACO, Texas – For the second time this season, the Rogers State softball team swept both Heartland Conference weekly awards as Alex Brake was named the Heartland Pitcher of the Week and Danelle Day earned Heartland Hitter of the Week announced on Tuesday (March 13) by the league.

Day, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, ,led the Hillcats in home runs (two) and RBI (six) to help the navy and red go a perfect 5-0 during the week, extending their winning streak to 18 straight games. The sophomore registered at least one RBI in all five games during the week. In the final two games of a three-game series against St. Edward's, Day hit solo home runs in each contest. She added two RBI in the opening game of the series on Friday afternoon. She was 2-for-4 with one RBI in game two of a doubleheader against Emporia State on Tuesday and added a sac fly in game one for another RBI and the game-winning run.

Day worked two walks and was hit by three pitches to post a .556 on-base percentage. For the season, Day leads the Hillcats in home runs (11), RBI (35), on-base percentage (.485) and slugging (.868) and has a .368 average. She also paces the Heartland Conference in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage. This is Day's first weekly honor.

Brake, a senior from Joplin, Mo., earned two complete-game victories to help the Cats go 5-0 during the week and run their winning streak to 18 straight games. She started the week with a 3-1 win over Emporia State, going 7.0 innings with only three hits allowed and one run. The senior totaled four strikeouts in the victory. Brake followed up that game with another complete game three-hitter in a 6-0 win over St. Edward's on Friday. She registered two strikeouts and needed only 60 pitches in 7.0 innings to move to 7-1 on the season. To end the week, she started and went the first 3.0 innings in a 3-1 win over SEU and allowed only one hit, a solo home run. For the week, Brake pitched 17 innings with a 0.82 ERA with only seven hits allowed and two runs scored. She tallied eight strikeouts and opponents hit only .119 against her. This is Brake's third pitcher of the week honor this season.
