CLAREMORE – The Rogers State women's soccer team suffered its first home loss of the season as visiting Lubbock Christian tallied the game-winning goal in the final minutes for a 1-0 score on Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon at Soldier Field.

With the loss, the Hillcats fell to 7-3 on the season and 4-3 in the Heartland Conference. RSU dropped its first loss at home this season as the Hillccats are 6-1 at Soldier Field in 2017. It's the first home loss for the Cats since Oct. 27, 2016 when the same LCU team defeated RSU, 1-0.

The Lady Chaps were awarded a free kick from about 20 yards away at the top of the box in the 89th minute for a late opportunity. After the free kick was blocked by the Hillcat defense, the ball bounced to Brittany Guthrie who knocked in the goal for the 1-0 score late in the game.

In the early going of the contest, the Hillcats had their own opportunities with six shots in the opening 14 minutes. RSU finished with an 8-4 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes of the game.

The second half saw the Lady Chaps gain some momentum as LCU held a small 8-5 advantage in shots.

For the contest, RSU finished with a slight 13-12 edge in shots, including a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Taylor Sargent went the full 90 minutes for the Hillcats in goal. She totaled four saves and allowed the one goal in the game, only her second goal allowed at home this season. She dropped to 7-3 on the season in goal.

The Hillcats go on the road next Saturday (Oct. 7) at Newman in Wichita, Kan. The game is set for 2:30 p.m. at Wilkins Field.
