WACO, Texas – Junior forward Lauren Schuldt earned Heartland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday (Nov. 13) afternoon.
Schuldt, a junior from Fayetteville, Ark., totaled game highs in two Hillcat wins to start the 2017-18 season at the Holiday Inn Express – Claremore Conference Challenge. She opened the season with a career-high 23 points and eight rebounds in a 65-56 win over Western New Mexico on Friday. She totaled 13 points from the free throw line, going 13-of-14 shooting from the line. The junior nearly tallied a double-double in a dominating 85-51 win over New Mexico Highlands on Saturday with 13 points and nine rebounds along with five blocks. She went 7-of-8 from the free throw line, finishing 20-of-22 shooting (90.9 percent) from the charity stripe. For the week, Schuldt averaged 18 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game. This is the junior's first player of the week honor in her career at RSU.
The Hillcats are 2-0 to start a season for the first time since 2012-13 when the navy and red opened the season 5-0. RSU travels to in-state rival Northeastern State on Wednesday (Nov. 15) for a 5:30 p.m. contest in Tahlequah, Okla.
