PRYOR — Claremore Sequoyah rebounded from a slow start Wednesday and ran past Salina, 53-35, in the consolation bracket of the Pryor Invitational high school basketball tournament.

The Oologah girls played things just the opposite, with a solid first half before fading down the stretch, and they fell to Hilldale, 45-38.

Sequoyah will play Haskell for fifth place at 5:45 p.m. Friday.

Oologah and Salina will play for seventh place in the girls bracket at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

Boys

Salina jumped out to a 12-6 first-period lead before Sequoyah righted its ship. The Eagles uncorked a 17-7 second-period explosion and were never headed.

Sequoyah limited the Wildcats to four points in the third quarter.

Daniel Smith, with 12, and Alex Haynes, with 10, led the scoring for the Eagles, who put an end to a six-game losing streak.

While improving their record to 4-8, the Eagles had 10 players put points on the board.

Girls

The Lady Mustangs built a 24-21 halftime lead over Hilldale, but that did not last.

Hilldale erased that deficit in the third, outscoring Oologah, 10-5.

In the fourth, the Lady Hornets put things away with a 14-9 push.

Lachelle Hotfelt kept Oologah in the first half, scoring 12 of her 17 points. Kyla Morse led Hilldale with 16.

“We’re just not shooting the ball very well,” Oologah coach Larry Bennett said. “We were getting pretty good shots, they just weren’t falling.”
