TULSA, Okla. –– Less than a month before the season opener on Sept. 1, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team will begin preseason practice this Friday, Aug. 3, with a morning workout on Harwell Field.
Players will report to camp on Thursday and go through an administrative day before taking the field a day later.
Tulsa will look to get back to the same form that sent the Hurricane to a 10-3 record and a Miami Beach Bowl Championship in 2016. Tulsa fielded an extremely young team in 2017, but gained valuable experience during an injury-riddled two-win season, a year that saw two games come down to a field goal as time expired and three more games settled by seven or less points in the final minutes.
“We have to get back to being more explosive offensively. We want to be an up-tempo, fast team, but we also want to be balanced in our attack. That is what makes this offense what it is,” said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery. “Defensively, the most important things we have to do is be cohesive as a group, get off the field on third down and eliminate explosive plays.
Tulsa’s schedule for the first week includes four straight practices before an off day on Tuesday, Aug. 7.
