LUBBOCK, Texas – The Rogers State softball team saw its 18-game winning streak end on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh in a game one 2-1 loss at Lubbock Christian on Tuesday at Plains Capital Park. The Cats managed a split in the doubleheader with a 6-0 victory in game two, RSU's first-ever win at LCU, and the victory snapped an 18-game losing streak to the Lady Chaps.

The Hillcats moved to 23-5 and 8-1 in the Heartland Conference. The Lady Chaps dropped to 14-9 and 5-6 in the league.

LCU 2, RSU 1 — LCU pinch hitter KK Lopez-Lui hit the walk-off single to right for the 2-1 score in game one. After a triple down the line in the bottom of the seventh, two intentional walks loaded the bases with the score even at 1-1 before the Lopez-Lui game-winning single.

The navy and red had a chance in the top of the inning with a lead-off single by Rylee DeLozier, but Katelyn Gamble fouled off a bunt with two strikes for a strikeout, and AJ Waggnor popped up her bunt that was caught in foul territory by the Lady Chaps. With two outs, a strikeout ended the top of the inning for the Cats.

Lindzi Clemmer of LCU put the home team up 1-0 in the second inning on a solo home run to center.

RSU responded with one run in the sixth for a 1-1 tie. After a Merissa Smith walk, Tailee Reding advanced Smith into scoring positon with a sac bunt. Allie McFetridge posted the first hit of the game on an RBI single to left for the 1-1 score.

Monique Francois of LCU limited the Cats to only two hits and the one run in 7.0 innings. She registered 13 strikeouts in the game.

Alex Brake, who was named the Heartland Pitcher of the Week today for the third time, started in the circle and allowed only one run and two hits with a season-high eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Reding came in for 1.0 inning and got the loss, her first of the season as she dropped to 7-1. She allowed one run and two hits with two strikeouts.

RSU 6, LCU 0 — McFetridge hit a two-run homer early and the Hillcats added four late runs to pull away for the 6-0 victory in game two, winning at LCU for the first time ever and defeating the Lady Chaps for the first time since April 12, 2012.

With two outs in the third, Danelle Day singled to right to bring up McFetridge. The freshman went yard to left for a two-run homer for a 2-0 RSU advantage.

After one run in the sixth, RSU registered three runs in the seventh for the 6-0 edge. Smith had a stand up triple to left and Reding drove Smith home with a single through the infield. With the bases loaded, Taylor Santistevan singled up the middle to score Day and Reding for a 6-0 score.

Freshman Andrea Morales was superb in the circle, allowing only three hits with eight strikeouts in 7.0 complete innings. The three hits were all singles with two staying in the infield. The freshman earned her fifth straight win and moved to 8-3 on the season.

McFetridge finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. The Hillcats posted eight runs in game two.

The Hillcats return home to take on 2017 Heartland Conference champion St. Mary's in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday at the Diamond Sports Complex.
