Chelsea, Foyil battle for first ‘W’

CHELSEA — For the second-straight week, the Chelsea Green Dragons host a Rogers County rival on their home turf.

Chelsea and Foyil — both teams looking for their first win of the season — will kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday night.

In Week 1, Chelsea started its season off with a 40-7 setback to the Class 3A Inola Longhorns.

The Foyil Panthers, meanwhile, dropped a hard-fought contest to Ketchum, 28-20, in their home opener at McGregor Field.

Hopefully, things will be different in Week 2 as one of these teams will steer their season in a positive direction.

Chelsea (0-1) managed only three first downs against Inola’s tenacious defensive pursuit.

Quarterback Chase McIntire tossed a pair of interceptions to Inola free safety Mason Stookey, including one that was returned for a 90-yard touchdown.

Stookey also forced a Chelsea fumble, which led to an Inola scoring opportunity.

Foyil (0-1) trailed 14-7 to Ketchum in the first quarter and 21-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Foyil found an offensive spark and cut the deficit to 21-20.

But a late touchdown by Ketchum in the fourth quarter secured the eight-point win in Foyil head coach Wade Couch’s home-opening debut.

Notes: Chelsea defeated Foyil, 48-14, in 2011. ... In 2010, Foyil traveled to Chelsea and pulled off the 28-14 win.
