BASEBALL: Baylor snaps OU's Big 12 winning streak

WACO, Texas — Oklahoma’s pitching didn’t hold up Sunday and its string of winning Big 12 Conference series ended because of it.

The Sooners fell to Baylor, 12-10, Sunday in the rubber game of the three-game series at Baylor Ballpark.

The loss dropped OU to 28-8 overall and 8-4 in Big 12 Conference. How it occurred was tough to take.

The Sooners led 9-4 after six innings despite starting pitcher Adam Choplick failing to get out of the first inning.

Nevertheless, OU had one of its best offensive games in weeks. Left fielder Hunter Haley went 3 for 4, drove in two runs and hit his second home run of the season. Second baseman Hector Lorenzana went 2 for 5 and drove in a team-high three runs.

However, the Sooners’ bullpen couldn’t hold the lead. Billy Waltrip and Jacob Evans combined to allow eight runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Evans (5-1) took the loss after allowing the last four runs on Cal Towey’s grand slam home run in the eighth inning.

Crayton Bare (3-1) picked up the victory to help the Bears improve 19-17 and 7-4 in the Big 12 Conference.

The Sooners return to L. Dale Mitchell Park for a doubleheader against Arkansas-Little Rock at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
