SOCCER: Lady Zebras rip Grove, 7-0

CLAREMORE — Make that seven in a row for the Class 5A No. 3-ranked Claremore Lady Zebras.

Behind freshman midfielder Carly Robinson’s two second-half goals and a another shutout performance in the box by sophomore goalkeeper Brylee Brasher, the Lady Zebras cruised to a 7-0 win over the Grove Lady Ridgerunners Tuesday evening in Metro Lakes Conference play at Lantow Field.

The win improved the Lady Zebras to 7-1 on the season and more importantly, kept their home record perfect at 5-0.

Early in the match, Claremore’s offense set the tone with Olivia Maulsby’s goal from Dailey Thomas putting the Lady Zebras up 1-0.

Shortly thereafter, Claremore freshman forward Lauren Chancellor continued the scoring with an unassisted goal to push the margin to 2-0.

With the momentum on their side, the Lady Zebras made it 3-0 on Taylor Williams’ corner kick that soared through the left side of the net.

Chancellor’s second goal — an assist from senior midfielder Katelin Teter — came in the second half to push Claremore’s lead to 4-0.

Then, a penalty kick inside the box by Williams put Claremore up 5-0.

Robinson capped Claremore’s scoring with two piercing goals from the right side that soared past the Grove keeper to secure the 7-0 victory.
