Lady Cards soar past Catoosa

VERDIGRIS — Class 3A No. 12 Verdigris run-ruled Rogers County neighbor Catoosa 11-2 in six innings Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Baileigh O'Dell and freshman Kiera Battenfield both had big days for the Cardinals (2-2).

O'Dell was 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI's. She also scored three runs, drew a walk, and stole a base.

Battenfield finished 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and a stolen base.

The Indians (1-2) scored both of their runs in the first inning. Kenzie Schur reached on an infield single with one out.

Rebecca Luper then followed with a home run over the center field fence on the first pitch she saw.

Verdigris countered with two runs in the bottom half of the first. Kylie Cravens knocked in the first run on a fielder's choice.

McKenzie Emory's single up the middle brought home the other run of the frame. Emory also struck out seven and surrendered just four hits in a complete game effort in the circle.

The Cardinals took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. O'Dell's two-run triple into the left field corner was the key blow of the frame.

Verdigris tacked on another run in the fourth inning after O'Dell drew a two-out bases loaded walk.

The Cardinals finished things off with six runs in the sixth. Cravens, O'Dell, and Kodi Hundley all had RBI's in the frame.

Ravyn White then capped the scoring in dramatic fashion with a three-run homer over the left field fence.

The Lady Cardinals return to action at 5 p.m. today in a non-conference game at Nowata.

Claremore sophomore forward Brylee Brasher may have felt a little out of position Monday night during the junior varsity game against Verdigris.
Normally, starting in the goal for the Lady Zebras varsity team, Brasher came out of her comfort zone to start at forward for the Claremore JV.
The position switch proved to be a great decision for head coach Robin Sutherland, as Brasher showed a tenacity on offense that led to Claremore’s 2-1 win over Verdigris.

Finally, the NBA playoffs are set.
It took the entire season to fill out those brackets.
Overtime thrillers in Memphis and Charlotte, a go-ahead dunk in Oklahoma City to win a game and cap another scoring title for Kevin Durant, plus some good old-fashioned disinterest by Brooklyn ... all that, and more, on the final night of the season was needed before the eight conference-quarterfinal matchups in this season's NBA playoffs could be decided.
