RSU's Garrett, Harris collect Heartland Conference soccer honors

CLAREMORE — Two Rogers State women’s soccer players earned All-Heartland Conference Women’s Soccer honors while the team earned a sportsmanship award for the 2013 season.

Claremore, Okla. natives Tara Garrett and Jordan Harris were each named third team all-conference while the RSU women’s soccer team was one of three squads to earn the Silver Heartland Sportsmanship Award. To be eligible for the Heartland Sportsmanship Award, teams must meet the criteria set by the NSCAA which is based on yellow and red cards. With only two cautions and no red cards on the year, the Hillcats had the least amount of yellow cards of any team in the conference.

Garrett started in in 16 of the 17 games she played in this season, leading the team in goals scored with eight on the year while also dishing out one assist. The sophomore served as a utility player for the Hillcats, playing as both a forward and a defender throughout the season. Harris appeared in 35 games in her three seasons on the Hill, starting 33 times. In her senior season she started in all 16 games she played in, making 121 saves.
